Request a survey or service
Under contract on a boat, or something is wrong with the one you own. Either way, the details below are what I need to give you a straight answer.
Booking a pre-purchase engine survey
Call as soon as you are under contract. The scheduling constraint is usually the boatyard and the sea trial slot rather than my calendar, and the engine survey is normally done on the same day as the hull survey so the vessel is only moved and run once.
What happens next
We talk
Vessel, engines, hours, where it is lying and your dates. You get told what the survey covers and what it costs, before anything is booked.
The day itself
Cold engine room inspection, dock trial with compression on every cylinder, then the sea trial under load. Fluid samples go out the same day.
The report
A written report with a photograph against each finding, plus an honest explanation of what each one means in money and in time.
The phone is quicker than any form. Call (941) 780-1330 and describe the symptom or the boat you are buying. Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Emergency and dockside calls taken outside posted hours.
Tell me what the engine is doing
Describe the symptom on the phone and most of the time the problem is narrowed before I arrive. Surveys are booked around your sea trial date.
