Repair

Emergency and dockside marine diesel service

When an engine will not start, overheats or fails the day before a trip, I come to the boat. This is a mobile operation, so service happens at your slip, in the yard or wherever the vessel is lying. Call and describe the symptom and you will get a straight answer about what is possible and when.

A boat that will not run is not a boat you can take anywhere

Marine breakdowns have terrible timing. They happen the morning of a charter, the day family arrives, or three hours from the dock. Getting a mechanic to the vessel quickly with the right diagnostic equipment is most of the battle.

What is included

  • Mobile response to slip, mooring or yard
  • No start and hard start diagnosis
  • Overheating and alarm response
  • Fuel contamination and water in fuel
  • Raw water pump and impeller failures
  • Charging and starting circuit failures
  • Travel service across Florida and the islands

How it works

  1. Call

Describe what happened and what the boat is doing now. That decides what gets brought and in what order things are checked.

  2. Respond

I come to the vessel with diagnostic equipment, a borescope and the parts a common failure would need.

  3. Get you running

Where a repair is possible on the spot, it happens. Where it is not, you get told honestly what it needs and what the realistic timeline is.

For the record

Jon Diesel Marine provides mobile emergency and dockside marine diesel service, attending vessels at their slip, mooring or boatyard across Sarasota and Manatee counties, with travel service throughout Florida, the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos.

Emergency and Dockside Service: common questions

Do you take calls outside business hours?

Posted hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Emergency and dockside calls are taken outside those hours. Call and I will tell you honestly whether I can get to you.

How far will you travel?

Regular service covers Sarasota and Manatee counties and the surrounding coast. I have worked throughout Florida and travelled to the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos for jobs that warranted it.

What should I do while I wait?

Shut the engine down if it is overheating or alarming and do not keep restarting it. Note the exact symptom, any alarm, smoke colour and temperature. Repeated restarts turn small failures into large ones.

Tell me what the engine is doing

Describe the symptom on the phone and most of the time the problem is narrowed before I arrive. Surveys are booked around your sea trial date.
